Did you ever wonder how your cat seems to know that you’re going to do something before you do it? How they seem to have a sixth sense?
For instance, one of my predecessors, BooBoo, always knew when Angel and Hulk were planning to go on vacation. She probably could smell the suitcase when it was brought down for packing, but she knew and wasn’t happy about it. This manifested in many ways – some not so aromatic.
Lady Bug, another predecessor, could always tell when Angel was feeling blue, especially when she was homesick for her parents or grandma. While Lady Bug wasn’t a snuggler, if Angel was feeling down she’d jump up on her lap and put her nose on Angel’s neck.
Cat’s will try to comfort their people in their own unique way and sometimes it isn’t noticeable right away – that they are being cognizant of their people’s feelings and emotions.

Cats can be way more empathetic than you may think. While they can’t make your bereavement period go away, your family pet can help you get through just one more day, followed by just one more day, etc.

When I get bored, I start to pace around the house.
Then I look for stuff I can get into.
Like chew on Angel’s plants (I’m not picky any of them will do – but I am partial to biting the flowers off the Christmas Cactus!)
Or stick my head in the toilet. Jump up on the kitchen table to see how long it will take for someone to chase me off. Steal a candy off Angel’s desk. Swipe Hulk’s pencil from his desk and chase it around the room.
…Race upstairs like a herd of buffalo and mewo at the top of my lungs like I’m being skinned alive.
Then, after about a half hour of this, I’m exhausted and fall into a long catnap.
How about you?

When Angel gets out of the shower in the morning, I like to go sit inside the shower and lick water off the bottom.
I know I have my own water dish, but there is something about this ritual that I like.
It keeps me occupied in the bathroom while she’s getting ready for the day, I get a little drink of water and I know when she leaves the bathroom to make breakfast.
Sometimes my tail gets a little wet, but that’s ok – as long as it isn’t my whole body. I don’t like to get my feet and belly wet.
Then, when we leave the bathroom together, I get my squirt of “Katy whip” and a dish of whichever flavor of canned food I choose that morning. (Angel gives me a choice of two cans – I pick the one I want by sniffing it.)
What sort of rituals do you and your people have?

Lately, I’ve been sleeping harder and deeper.
Hulk and Angel sometimes have to wake me up by tickling my tummy or petting my head.
When I was younger (and more afraid) I used to wake up when a butterfly would land on my fur. Now, it takes a couple of shakes to wake me up.
I feel much more secure and safe in my house now than I did when I was younger, and my older bones like to rest longer as well.
I do still wake up meowing when I’m startled awake, but I no longer wake up hissing and ready to bite the world.

Angel says I’m just like all other kids out there – I beg for a new toy at Xmas and then when New Year’s comes, I won’t play with it anymore.
Here’s a shot of me in my old dirty bed – with my fluffy new bed from Santa sitting idle by the side.
I really like my new bed, but I can’t stretch out as easily – AND it gets too warm this close to the fire.
So Angel put my new bed on the rocki
ng chair near the fire – this is better because it doesn’t get so hot and I like my bed cushy when I’m on the chair. So it works out good.
But Santa isn’t too happy with me right now. He says he won’t get me any nice toys for Xmas next year unless I’m really, REALLY good!
