Especially when Angel grabs me off the end of the bed and snuggles up close with me near her pillow. 

For the last couple of days, she’s done that – and I’ve dripped all over her pillwo or arm. 

‘Course, I don’t like the cuddling and snuggling, so I help it to run a little – keeps the hugs and kisses away!

But it tough for a cat with a runny nose – we don’t have opposible thumbs that we can blow our noses with – we can 0nly blow bubbles.

But the fact remains that I get into the grass, on the sidewalks and near the bird feeders, etc. where other animals (both wild and domestic) play and eat.

This means I’m susceptible to vermin from these other animals.

So it’s imperative that I have the full regimen of vaccinations that are required to keep me healthy.

This means, at the very least, vaccinations against rabies, feline leukemia, feline infectious enteritis and cat flu.  Also it means having protection agianst fleas…fleas are the means by which tapeworms are carried from one animal to another – including humans!

So, take a page from my book.  Now that it’s summer and your pet may spend more time outdoors where he or she can come into contact with all those nasties, please make sure they’re vaccinated properly!

Your pet will thank you for it, and you won’t have the worry of losing a dear friend to a preventable disease.

Cats Rule!

I didn’t eat very well (although I had my fill of peanuts, popcorn and corn chips – they’re still a delicacy today!)  and I was scared of everything.

But now I live in a big, warm home with some nice people (my slaves) who give me pretty much anything I want.  Except mice and birds.

This morning, Angel and I went for a walk in the sunshine and fresh air.

Cats need to breath fresh air and we love having the sunshine warm our fur.

I saw a terrific looking bird in this cedar tree.

Snacks!

Would have made a nice snack for this adventuress – but alas it was not to be.

For some reason, Angel thinks birds are to be admired and listened to and made a fuss over.

Angel and Hulk have a pet bird, Poppy Seed.   Poppy Seed is white,  like me, with orange dots on her cheeks and a big yellow top-knot on her head.  I tried to eat her once, but she bit me in the ear and made me bleed.  I decided to leave her alone after that – darn thing  bites hard.

Not to mention the ruckus Angel made – sheesh!  You’d think that big white bird was special or something.  I mean…she has me, what does she need a tough old thing like that for?  I bet she wouldn’t even taste good – she’s over twenty years old after all.

But I digress – the morning was warm and sunshiny – just the way I like my mornings.  Full of birds and squirrels and chipmunks.  But sadly, no mice.

Oh well, you learn to appreciate what you do have and don’t worry about what you don’t have.

Cat’s Rule!

I like to go outside…my favorite place is by the cedar tree in the front yard – where the grass tastes the best, near the bird feeders, and unfortunately, where the squirrels like to play.

Those darn squirrels have fleas and leave their “friends” laying around so they leap on me.

We had a really bad infestation last year – they got in the house and then I had to have baths almost daily!  Hate that!

So, this year, we’re staying on top of the flea problem.  I get flea medicine every month (Angel checked with my veterinarian to see what was best for me) that kills not only the adult fleas, but the eggs as well.  We have a house bomb  (just in case), and I get a flea bath every six to eight weeks as well (not my favorite thing in the world!)

Something to keep in mind:  While fleas can make us scratch like a dog, excessive licking is another good indicator that your cat has a flea infestation – we don’t always scratch.  So if your cat is licking more than usual – you might want to check him or her over to see if you can spot any of those bouncing varmints.

Another good thing to know – fleas feed on your cat’s blood.  An adult flea will never leave it’s host.  Any fleas that you see jumping are usually juvenile fleas that were hatched on your cat and are now looking for a host of their own.

Some cats are allergic to fleas and develop a horrid skin rash from the flea bites.  If this happens, your cat should take a trip to the vet for some medication.

A flea-free cat is a happy cat!
