Do you get your people Xmas gifts?
I do…I always get Angel some lip balm – because she’s always kissing my ears and I don’t want scratchy lips on me. Sometimes Angel will kiss my ears so much I smell like Bubblegum, or Strawberry or whatever flavor of lip balm she used.
And I always get Hulk a gift certificate from Subway – although this year I may get him a gift certificate to Jimmy John’s instead because he likes the taste of the meat better (ya gotta love a guy who’s a carnivore!)
I even get Poppy Seed (21 year old blind cockatiel) some millet seeds – although I’d rather eat her than give her a gift. But she’s so old she’d probably be tough and stringy, anyway.
I hope you’ve had a chance to shop for your people – if you haven’t yet, be careful crossing the street!
Cats Rule
As I was looking out over the neighborhood at 2:00 a.m. this dark and cold morning, I noticed the beautiful blinking lights of all colors and sizes.
Some of the neighbors have their entire house lit up, like in “Deck The Halls”, others have only the lights from the Xmas tree shining.
These lights and all the shadows they create make me want to stalk prey that I can see moving, just ever so slightly.
Some neighbors are tucked into a nice warm bed, with no visible Xmas lights aglow.
Whatever the case, I want to take these moments to reflect on how lucky I am…
- Lucky to have good eyesight – so I can see these wonderful Xmas sights (even if I can’t hear the carols)
- Lucky to have a warm bed in front of a nice cozy fire – so I don’t freeze my ears and tail off
- Lucky to have food served to me several times a day – food I don’t have to catch (I eat whether I’m a better hunter than my prey or not!)
- Lucky to have a solid, cozy house to live in - so I don’t have to sleep in the snow, wind and rain
- Lucky to have people who love me – so I’m not so alone in this world
- Lucky to be alive – if Angel and Hulk hadn’t rescued me, I wouldn’t be here today
- Lucky that I live in a country where people don’t find cat a delicacy – so I’m not eaten for a tasty snack
I thank the great essence of life every day for my good fortune…
I hope you do too!
Remember – Cats Rule!
My purring keeps Hulk awake.
I love to purr when both Hulk and Angel are in bed. It’s senseless to purr when just one is in bed. I’m happiest when I’m laying between their feet, so I purr.
Angel says my purring lulls her to sleep, but Hulk gets mad – he says he can’t sleep because I purr so loud. When he does that, I’ll get up and move between their heads – that shows him.
Of course, then he usually kicks me off the bed, and since he’s putting in long days right now before Xmas, I guess he needs his sleep.
But I don’t know any other way to express my happiness.
…I guess I could run up and down the stairs yowling or catch him a tasty bug or something.
Does purring keep your people awake or lull them to sleep?
Cats Rule!
I’d like for Angel to stop hugging and kissing me so much. I hate all that mushy stuff. If I’m in the same room as her, that should be indication enough that I’m affectionate.
There is no earthly reason for all that slobbering on my freshly licked fur.
Do your people pester you like that? I’ve tried hissing and growling, but she just doesn’t get the idea that I want to be left alone.

I want to be left alone!
Hulk on the other hand is very good about letting me be.
He doesn’t see the need to always be petting me and touching me, and he leaves my fur with that “just licked” look.
No over-brushing from him.
How do you let your people know that enough is enough already?

It’s the last day of November and they finally turned on my “god” – the pellet stove. They bought this right after I graced their home with my presence.

Katy in front of her "god"
My bed sits right in front of the pellet stove (in the winter time, at least) and I truly LOVE to sit or lay here and soak up all the heat.
This is where I pay homage to the pellet stove god and thank him daily for this soft warm heat.
Angel likes to brush me in front of the stove as well – so I doubly love it.
Sometimes (if Hulk isn’t watching) she’ll even give me some treats right on my bed.
Because she has pretty severe asthma, we can’t have a fireplace in the house, and a pellet stove is the next best thing – without the smoke and dust!
I was born to lay here and snooze in this nice heat. Gotta’ go take a cat nap now…
