Loss of another good friend

What a few weeks!  I have yet more sadness to report.

My next door neighbor and best friend in the world, Rex, also passed on to that great doggie playground in the sky.

Rex protected our house as well as his own.  Angel even bought dog treats to reward Rex with.

When he’d pop his leash, he’d come over and snuffle my belly.  Then we’d sit side-by-side and watch traffic go by.

Rex was 14 years old and his poor little body just gave out.  His lady spent his last night on earth with her arms around him and he knew he was loved and would be missed.

I'll miss you Rex!

I'll miss you Rex!

I showed my respect and paid him honor in my own way…For three days I slept near the office window, where I could look out over his grave under the lilac bush.  And I kept vigil during the nights to make sure his spirit could see me watching over him.

Rex, I’ll miss you buddy!

Here’s a really cool site I found – for pet lovers of all ages:  Petcentric

There’s a neat IQ test to see how much you really know about your cat or kitten.

here come those DOGS again

Angel only got one wrong!  (Yeah she knows a lot about cats, but not everything!)

This site is sponsored by Purina and has a lot of good clean fun on it.  You can post your pet videos or pictures and communicate with other like-minded pet owners.

It’s a cool site and fun to poke around – has dog stuff too…I guess even that subspecies needs people who car about them.

Shelters – can use your help

Last time Angel talked about finding your next companion  and what a great resource your local animal shelter can be.

If you already have a great pet, but would like to help other animals who aren’t as lucky, animal shelters can always use food, towels (both cloth and paper), laundry detergent, toys, food, litter, soft blankets, food, leashes and collars.

And, did I mention…food?

There are always far more pets than people to adopt them.  Even though shelters do their best, the fact remains that with so many animals, supplies run out long before need does.

Donating these items to your local shelter can help many cats and dogs realize a better chance to find a loving home.

Donating your time or services (cleaning cages, walking dogs, writing advertising, typing, filing, phone coverage, etc.) will help immensely as well.  The Humane Society of the United States has great tips on how to volunteer or otherwise get involved.
