Socialized Cats

Did you ever wonder how hard it is to socialize a cat who has never been around humans?

Well, let me tell ya’ – it ain’t easy!

I am an example of a non-socialized cat when young.  Remember I am also deaf, so socializing me was not an easy task.

I was found living under the bleachers at the football field in Weyauwega, WI. I was afraid of humans, dogs and just about any other animal.

It took a good solid two years of work on Angel’s part to socialize me.  I can now go for about 1/2 hour cuddled in her arms.  But not much more than that.  I like to be near her but not next to her – no touching, and I like to be able to run away in a hurry if there is too much action around me.

I don’t run away immediately if I’m laying on the floor and someone comes near me – I actually lie there and let them pet me.

In fact, when the policeman was at my house waiting for the paramedics to arrive (when Angel had to go to the hospital) I rubbed against his black uniform pants with my white fur and meowed for treats – see how good I am with people these days?

Persistence, diligence and a positive attitude allowed Angel to get through to me and I am a happy and healthy cat these days.

Don’t get me wrong – I still like bleacher food (peanuts, corn chips and popcorn) and will try to steal some when Angel or Hulk are eating these tasty treats, but am quite happy with my fresh grown catnip, homemade treats and the occasional splash of tuna water from the tuna package.

Cats Rule!
